GoogleApps Email and Drive Now Available for Grade 6-12 Students

Have you been hoping you could email your students information about class assignments, share documents with them and ask them to collaborate? If so, your wait is over!

GoogleApps Email and Drive Accounts are NOW available for Students in Grades 6-12! Please review the following so you'll know how to activate these accounts for students on your campus, as well as provide support in case students forget their password.

WHY ACTIVATE GOOGLEAPPS AND EMAIL ACCOUNTS?
Once you activate GoogleApps and Gmail for Students at your campus, they will be able to register for Khan Academy courses and teachers will be able to email students.

Watch these short videos on how you could use GoogleApps with students to support teaching and learning.
HOW CAN STUDENT GOOGLEAPPS ACCOUNTS BE ACTIVATED?
To activate student accounts, your campus technology coordinator (CTC) and/or principal must first notify the EC Technology Operations Department that your students have been taught the two required digital citizenship and cybersafety classes--view curriculum--as mandated by eRate Federal Funding (which provides critical funding for Internet connectivity). Your CTC or Principal can simply fill out this online form.

I AM A PRINCIPAL (OR CTC). HOW CAN I FIND OUT MORE?
Although the EC Technology Operations Office is happy to respond to any questions you might have over the phone (or in person), we have setup a webinar to take place the week of October 29th where you can ask questions. Register via Eduphoria Workshops.

WHAT HAPPENS IF A STUDENT FORGETS THEIR PASSWORD?
If students forget their password, you, as a classroom teacher or ECISD staff member entrusted with access, can reset their password using the Student Account LookUp Tool (SALT) (Short URL: http://bit.ly/ecisdsalt). Always make sure to logout of SALT when done using it.

SALT looks something like this:

Once you login, you will see a screen like the one below where you can search on either the student's name OR his student ID:

Once your search is complete, you will see the following (note that parts of the image below have been blurred to protect student's identity):

As you can see in the search above, the search on my name "Miguel" yielded various results, one of which is this grade 12 student at the High School. To Reset the Student's Password, click on RESET PASSWORD.

EMAIL TO STUDENTS
Below, please find the email that all students will see when they login to their GoogleApps Gmail account for the first time:
Welcome ECISD Students!

You now have your own @ecisdst.net  student Google email account!

Please remember to be polite online, and avoid using  email that would hurt or bully others. Remember that what you do online is public, not private. At any time your account can be disabled and email can be seen by a technology or campus administrator. We would not want your email to end up on the evening news. That would not be good for anyone.

To help guide you, please find 5 "class rules" of how email should be used:

5  Student email RULES

1) Be yourself when sending email (do not pretend to be someone else or use another persons email account)..

2) Be a model citizen, not a "cyberbully."

3) Tell and show your teacher or principal right away if you receive words, pictures, video, audio that make you feel bad or says bad things about you or others.
4) Your signature--and that of your parent's (or guardian's) on the East Central ISD Parent/Student Handbook Acknowledgement form shows that you accept these rules and accept the consequences for your actions while using Google mail.

5) Do not share your email account information with anyone besides your parents or legal guardians.

Thank you for remembering and following these 5 rules!
Glad you took a moment to read this,
